Preface

So many people contributed to this book that I would like to acknowledge them.
My editor, David Ferguson, for his support and thoughtfulness in giving me the
time and freedom to complete the book I originally envisioned. To Jeff McKelvey,
my content editor for physiology, for his outstanding scholarship and attention to
detail. His numerous insightful comments greatly improved the final manuscript.
To Dan Matusiak for his diligence in faithfully creating the glossary. I would also
like to offer a special thank you to reviewers Faith Vruggink, Steve Bassett,
Cynthia Herbrandson, Chris Sullivan, and David Canoy for their valuable feedback
during the writing process. My wife, Lily Krieger, kindly accepted all my
long working hours away from the family.Without her help and support this book
would not have been written. Thanks to Mike Timmons for helping me crystallize
my initial ideas about the visual analogy guides and turn them into a tangible
reality. To my friend, Kevin Patton, for graciously responding to all my authoring
questions along the way. Finally, for my students, friends in the Human Anatomy
& Physiology Society (HAPS), and everyone else who offered suggestions,
support, and encouragement. Thanks to all of you. I am truly grateful…
